Sewing Crash Course with Parent/Child option

Learn the basics of sewing in this 5 1/2hr, 2 part class.

  • Learn how to operate a sewing machine including; threading it, winding a bobbin, and different stitch settings (part 1).
  • Practice the straight and zigzag stitch (part 1).
  • Learn how to read a commercial pattern, including how to determine what you will need for your project (part 1).
  • Learn about fabric and how to cut out a pattern properly (part 1).     
  • Cut out your sewing pattern (part 1).    
  • Go over proper sewing room set up for successful sewing, where we will talk about essential tools to get started, and then a few extras to help make things easier (part 1). 
  • Review machine set up, and practice stitching (part 2)  
  • Get started on your first project with confidence (part 2). 
  • Go over specific skills that were not covered in part one that may be needed for your project (part 2).
  • If you are not able to finish your project in class, but would like to, arrangements can be made for you to come back and finish ($10.00/hr).
Part 1 will be covered in a 2.5 hour class, and part 2 in a 3 hour class.
For part 1 you will need to bring: an easy beginner pattern. (Pajama pants, a simple skirt, apron, or hand bag are all good options, try to avoid anything with darts, binding, or knit fabric), please make sure it is the right size for you before you buy it, you will need your bust, waist, and hip measurements. Note: ***pattern sizes differ greatly from store clothing sizes, always check your measurements with the pattern before you buy.***
For part 2 you will need to bring: all your fabric and materials needed for your project including thread. Remember to prewash your fabric.
Optional: You are welcome to bring your own machine to learn on, or you can use one of ours. As part of the class we will be talking about what to look for when purchasing a sewing machine.
 Bonus!: Participants will receive a 15% discount on our Sewing Skills Workshop for 6 months after they take the course to help them continue building their sewing skills.
